动词短语
什么是动词短语
动词短语是通过将一个动词连接到另一个词(通常是介词或副词)而形成的,这样会形成一个全新的表达,其含义与原始动词不同,可以在短时间内提升语言表达的丰富程度,并且让你的文章更加地道。
为什么要使用动词短语
在准备TOEFL的学术写作时,考官会期望看到你大量使用地道的动词短语表达。那么我们应该如何使用它们呢?就像所有词语一样,动词短语分为非正式,正式或中立三类。
其中,非正式短语动词主要与熟识的朋友(如密友)一起使用。 正式短语动词可用于更正式,学术或专业的场合。 中性短语动词几乎可以在所有语境中安全使用。
在独立任务和综合任务中,你应该选择使用中性到正式短语,因为TOEFL考试的总体语气是学术性的。
如何使用短语动词
短语动词可以是可拆分的,也可以是不可拆分的,具体取决于您是否可以在动词和质词之间使用其他词。
使用可分离的短语动词时,可以在动词和质点之间使用其他词,而使用不可分离的短语动词时,则不能在它们之间插入其他词。
Examples:
Look the word up! (这里的look up是一个可拆分的动词词组)
You should look into the matter. (这里的look into 则是不可拆分的动词词组)
规则2:
短语动词也可以是及物动词或不及物动词,这取决于你是否可以将宾语与它们一起使用。
及物动词带宾语,而不及物动词不能带宾语
Examples:
I made that story up. (story 是动词短语 made up的宾语)
My car broke down. (broke down不及物,所以不需要添加宾语)
有哪些短语动词
以下列表包含30个短语动词,都是中性或正式动词断句,因此你可以放心地在TOEFL考试所要求的学术语境中使用它们。
1. Account for
词义: 解释...的原因
类型: 不可拆分
例句: Increased pollution may account for climate change.
增加的污染可能可以解释气候变化的原因。
2. Adhere to
词义: 遵守
类型: 不可拆分
例句: You must adhere to the terms of the contract.
你必须要遵守合同的条款。
3. Allude to
词义: 暗示
类型: 不可拆分
例句: She kept alluding to potential flaws, but she didn’t want to reveal it.
她不停地在暗示我们的潜在缺陷,但是她并不想透露。
4. Bring on
词义: 导致(坏事)发生,通常指疾病
类型: 可拆分
例句: His heart condition was brought on by his diet.
他的心脏问题是由他的饮食导致的。
5. Bring up
词义: 开始讨论某话题
类型: 可拆分
例句: She brought the matter up very late so they didn’t have time to discuss it properly.
她很晚才开始讨论这个问题,所以他们没有时间充分地进行讨论
6. Come about
词义: 发生,通常是偶然
类型: 不可拆分
例句: Increased unemployment has come about through the process of automated production.

7. Cut back

例句: They are cutting back expenses.

8. Do without
词义: 在没有...的情况下继续生活或工作

例句:After graduating from university, she embarked on a career in banking.

10. Follow through
词义: 继续从事某事直到最后完成
类型: 不可拆分
例句:
You will need to follow through with some reading if you want to master the subject.
你需要继续进行阅读如果你想掌握这门学科。
11. Frown upon
词义: 反对/禁止
类型: 不可拆分
Example: Failure to attend classes is frowned upon
不上课是被严令禁止的。
12. Get across
词义: 让人们明白某事

例句: The teacher managed to get across how important it was to attend lectures.
